MARINERS MAKE A DEAL TO GET ROENIS ELIAS BACK

The Seattle Mariners acquired pitcher Roenis Elias from the Boston Red Sox for a player to be named later (Eric Filia 06/12/18).

What does it give the Seattle Mariners
The Mariners needed to add some depth for their rotation, so they did well to reacquire Elias (who pitched for Seattle in both 2014 and 2015). He was used mostly as a reliever in the Red Sox organization, so it may take the Cuban left-hander a little time before he becomes a viable candidate for the starting rotation again.

What does it give the Washington Nationals
The Red Sox will eventually get back a future asset in exchange for Elias (who was not used much during his stint with Boston). The 29-year-old Elias made only four MLB appearances with the club (1 start) since 2016, so this deal (as much as anything) gives Elias a fresh start back with his former team, and a chance to start.

Fantasy impact
Elias was never a great fantasy option even during his time in Seattle's rotation, and he is now three years older. Proceed with caution here. He may only be a dart throw in the deepest of fantasy leagues.
