TAMPA BAY TRADES FOR FAIRBANKS
The Tampa Bay Rays acquired pitcher Peter Fairbanks from the Texas Rangers for infielder Nick Solak.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
In Fairbanks, the Rays add a lanky right-hander with plenty of strikeout ability for the bullpen. He has struggled in MLB so far in 2019 (8.2 IP, 9.35 ERA) but there is still some untapped potential here. Tampa Bay has a way of getting the most out of arms, so perhaps Fairbanks has landed in the right place for his pitching career. For now, he will pitch at Triple-A Durham.
What does it give the Texas Rangers
The Rangers gave up on Fairbanks fairly swiftly, as he only made his big-league debut this season and was pitching in Single-A ball just two years ago. That said, they liked Solak enough to pull the trigger here. Solak is a second baseman who can hit for power. He has already reached Triple-A ball and might arrive in Texas later in 2019.
Fantasy impact
Both Fairbanks and Solak are on the fantasy radar at this time, without necessarily being solid options for the time being. They both become bigger factors when they get recalled by their new respective organizations, but take a wait-and-see approach for now.
