GALLEN FOR CHISHOLM
The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired pitcher Zac Gallen from the Miami Marlins for infielder Jazz Chisholm.
What does it give the Arizona Diamondbacks
This is a swap of young talent that fills needs. For Arizona, getting a quality young arm like Gallen is a coup, especially if the team decides to trade starter Robbie Ray before the deadline. Either way, Gallen (who turns 24 in a few days) should instantly become a member of Arizona's starting rotation after posting a nifty 2.72 earned-run average in seven starts for Miami.
What does it give the Miami Marlins
In Chisholm, the Marlins get a toolsy shortstop with supreme talent and upside. He was rated Arizona's top prospect by Baseball America heading into 2019 and instantly becomes Miami's shortstop of the future. Since Miami is deep in pitching but short on position players, this trade makes all the sense in the world from a Marlins perspective.
Fantasy impact
Both players have high keeper upside and should have already been owned in most leagues that work beyond a year-to-year basis. Chisholm could have an easier path to regular employment in Miami, as Arizona seems happy with steady Nick Ahmed at shortstop. As for Gallen, his stock could rise moving to a better offensive team in the Diamondbacks. His long-range value remains high.
