GARLICK GOES TO PHILADELPHIA
The Philadelphia Phillies acquired outfielder Kyle Garlick from the Los Angeles Dodgers for pitcher Tyler Gilbert.
What does it give the Philadelphia Phillies
In Garlick, the Phillies get a right-handed bat to complement left-handed hitters Bryce Harper, Adam Haseley, Jay Bruce and Nick Williams in the outfield. Garlick has a very good shot at earning a bench role with Philadelphia this spring. He may even form a platoon in left field with either Bruce or Williams. Stay tuned.
What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers recently designated Garlick for assignment following the acquisition of Mookie Betts to play right field, so it is not surprising that Garlick was traded. Gilbert is a 26-year-old left-hander who pitched well at Triple-A Lehigh Valley last season. Gilbert has yet to make his debut in Major League Baseball.
Fantasy impact
Garlick should not be drafted in virtually all league formats this year but keep an eye on his progress throughout 2020. He might be able to carve out enough at-bats to become a factor. As for Gilbert, he has no fantasy value at this time.
