PADRES PICK UP TIM HILL FROM KC

The San Diego Padres acquired pitcher Tim Hill from the Kansas City Royals for outfielder Franchy Cordero and pitcher Ronald Bolanos.

What does it give the San Diego Padres
The Padres view themselves as contenders, so it makes sense for them to acquire a solid left-handed reliever for their bullpen like Hill. Cordero had trouble cracking San Diego's lineup and was likely going to remain a backup outfielder (despite the fact Manuel Margot, last year's center-fielder, was traded to Tampa Bay). Bolanos is raw and far less proven than Hill.

What does it give the Kansas City Royals
Since the Royals are a major long shot to contend in 2020, it makes sense from their angle to move out a middle reliever for two younger players with more upside. Cordero could eventually become Kansas City's starting center-fielder, though for now he will play with the Royals' extra players. Bolanos can both start and relieve, and his arm is worth gambling on.

Fantasy impact
Hill may have seen a few save chances in Kansas City but he will probably slide back in San Diego's bullpen pecking order and be used mostly in middle relief. Therefore, his stock goes down after this deal. Cordero and Bolanos may potentially benefit greatly from this trade from a fantasy perspective, but for now remain merely speculative additions in deep leagues.
