CODY REED REELED IN BY THE RAYS

The Tampa Bay Rays acquired pitcher Cody Reed from the Cincinnati Reds for pitcher Riley O'Brien.

What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays get the left-handed Reed, a former top prospect who has struggled pitching out of the bullpen this season. He has the type of stuff that can be fixed by Tampa Bay coaching, as we have seen countless times in the past with various other arms that arrive in Tampa.

What does it give the Cincinnati Reds
For the Reds, Reed was no longer in their plans (and was recently designated for assignment). Therefore, they did well to acquire O'Brien. The 25-year-old right-hander is a little old for a prospect but he has pitched well at both the high Single-A and Double-A levels.

Fantasy impact
Reed should not be picked up at this time, though it would not be surprising to see him emerge as a solid middle reliever, setup man or even opener for the Rays. As for O'Brien, take a wait-and-see approach with him as well. His numbers are intriguing.
