BREWERS ADD ADAMES
The Milwaukee Brewers acquired infielder Willy Adames and pitcher Trevor Richards from the Tampa Bay Rays for pitchers J.P. Feyereisen and Drew Rasmussen.
What does it give the Milwaukee Brewers
For the Brewers, Adames is likely to take over as the team's starting shortstop from Luis Urias (who is likely to take on more of a utility infielder role moving forward). Meanwhile, Richards will take some of the bullpen innings lost with the departures of both Feyereisen and Rasmussen.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays decided to deal their starting shortstop in order to upgrade their bullpen. Tampa Bay relies heavily on relievers (more than most teams), so it makes sense. Also, the Rays have budding shortstop prospect Wander Franco waiting in the wings. For now, the latter will remain at Triple-A Durham.
Fantasy impact
Adames may be an upgrade on Urias for the Brewers but he is not very recommendable in standard fantasy leagues. As for the three pitchers dealt in this trade, all have more real-time value than fantasy stock. Pass on all three arms at this time.
