DARIN RUF DEALT TO THE METS

The New York Mets acquired designated hitter/outfielder Darin Ruf from the San Francisco Giants for infielder/designated hitter J.D. Davis and pitchers Carson Seymour, Nick Zwack and Thomas Szapucki.

What does it give the New York Mets
This is mainly a swap of right-handed batters. Ruf will likely see most of his at-bats in New York as either a designated hitter or left-fielder. He can also play first base, if required. Ruf is a more consistent hitter than Davis, the player he is replacing on the roster.

What does it give the San Francisco Giants
Davis is a little more versatile in that he can play third base, which the Giants may need depending on the health status of veteran Evan Longoria. Otherwise, expect Davis to play a platoon role for San Francisco. The Giants also got three pitching prospects here.

Fantasy impact
Ruf and Davis are similar hitters with similar fantasy values. However, Ruf is the better overall hitter, which is why New York dealt for him. Neither is recommendable at this time unless one of them is able to secure semi-regular playing time down the stretch. Seymour, Zwack and Szapucki are all solid pitching prospects who are now on the keeper radar.
