MONTGOMERY FOR BADER

The St. Louis Cardinals acquired pitcher Jordan Montgomery from the New York Yankees for outfielder Harrison Bader.

What does it give the St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals continue to seek out more starting pitching, and adding Montgomery should help them. He is arguably a better option than Jose Quintana, who was added earlier from Pittsburgh. St. Louis has been using Dylan Carlson in center field, which should continue with Bader gone to the Bronx.

What does it give the New York Yankees
The Yankees improve their outfield defense in a big way with the arrival of Bader, who is currently injured. His acquisition should keep Aaron Judge in right field most of the time and Giancarlo Stanton in the DH slot fairly regularly. It may also mean less playing time for Aaron Hicks, though Bader struggles with the bat.

Fantasy impact
Montgomery's stock should remain decent moving from New York to St. Louis, and his place in the rotation should be more secure with the Cardinals. Bader is not recommendable as long as he continues to struggle to hit with consistency.
