BOSOX, MARLINS EXCHANGE BULLPEN ARMS
The Miami Marlins acquired pitcher Matt Barnes and cash from the Boston Red Sox for pitcher Richard Bleier.
What does it give the Miami Marlins
Barnes was designated for assignment not too long ago by Boston, but if he can regain his 2021 form (21 saves), the Marlins will be thrilled. He will have to compete for a spot in spring training, but expect him to be in Miami's bullpen to start the year.
What does it give the Boston Red Sox
In Bleier, the Red Sox are adding another left-hander to the bullpen. He has pitched a lot in the last two seasons, appearing in 123 games while throwing 108.2 innings. Over that time, he registered a 3.23 ERA; he should be a reliable middle innings reliever for Boston.
Fantasy impact
Unless Barnes can become a closer again, there is no fantasy impact with this trade. Both pitchers are middle relief depth at this point in their respective careers.
