The Chicago White Sox acquired pitcher Luis Patino from the Tampa Bay Rays for cash.
What does it give the Chicago White Sox
Patino was once a promising prospect, even putting on an impressive showing as a starter with the Rays in 2021. He has struggled with injuries and control ever since, but Patino is just 23; the White Sox will take a flier on him. He could appear in the majors in the final months of the season.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays had apparently seen enough of Patino. Cash was enough to get a deal done, which does not seem like much heading back for Tampa Bay. Nevertheless, they are comfortable with moving on from the right-hander and are always on the lookout for cash deals.
Fantasy impact
Patino will need to prove himself in the White Sox organization before he can make any fantasy impact. Still, he has looked like an MLB-caliber talent in the past, which makes him worth watching if he gets recalled.
