The Atlanta Braves acquired pitcher Jimmy Herget from the Los Angeles Angels for cash.
What does it give the Atlanta Braves
Herget provides the Braves with pitching depth in the minors. After a strong 2022 season (2.48 ERA in 69 IP), the right-hander has struggled and was demoted to Triple-A ball to start 2024. As a reliever with recent MLB experience, he is a decent, low-cost pick-up for the Braves.
What does it give the Los Angeles Angels
Despite success in Major League Baseball as recently as 2022, Herget had minimal trade value and was clearly not part of the Angels' plans. They designated him for assignment before this trade and at least got some cash in return. The Angels are unlikely to regret this move.
