SLATER TRADED AGAIN
The Baltimore Orioles acquired outfielder Austin Slater, infielder Livan Soto and cash from the Cincinnati Reds for a player to be named later.
What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
Slater joins the Orioles just a few weeks after a trade from the Giants to the Reds. He has struggled this season, but it appears the O's will give him a look as a bench outfielder and platoon bat against left-handers. They also reacquires Soto for a third time this season. Baltimore must see something in the light-hitting infielder to once again want him as depth in the minors.
What does it give the Cincinnati Reds
For the Reds, this trade was about roster management. They made a few other deals on deadline day, and to make room for the new additions they shipped out Slater and Soto. A player to be named later is all they will get in return here, but that is at least something. Slater had only been a Red for a few weeks, and Soto had been designated for assignment earlier in the day.
Fantasy impact
There is no fantasy impact with this trade. Slater is unlikely to see many at-bats with the Orioles, and Soto will most likely be playing in the minor leagues.
