FIVE-PLAYER DEAL

The Washington Nationals acquired pitcher Scott Olsen and outfielder Josh Willingham from the Florida Marlins for second baseman Emilio Bonifacio, pitcher P.J. Dean and infielder Jake Smolinski.

What does it give the Washington Nationals
The Nationals get a bona fide starter in Olsen, who could become the staff ace in short time. They also receive a power-hitting left-fielder in Willingham, who should undoubtedly help Washington's anemic offense. This is a deal the Nats had to make, since they need all the immediate help they can find.

What does it give the Miami Marlins
The Marlins decided to deal away two regulars for three prospects, the most notable being second baseman Bonifacio. He is expected to compete for a starting role, and possibly the leadoff job in Florida. Dan Uggla is now expected to be traded or moved to third base to accomodate Bonifacio's arrival. Dean and Smolinski are prospects for down the road.
