HERMIDA TO BOSTON

The Boston Red Sox acquired outfielder Jeremy Hermida from the Florida Marlins for pitchers Hunter Jones and Jose Alvarez.

What does it give the Boston Red Sox
In Hermida, the Red Sox receive an underachieving bat that hopes to jump-start his career in the American League. With Jason Bay likely headed out of town as a free agent, the BoSox are in need of outfield help, which could lead to Hermida landing a starting role in Beantown. At worst, he'll serve as a solid platoon or fourth outfielder for Boston.

What does it give the Miami Marlins
The Marlins finally tired of Hermida's under-performing ways but didn't land much in return. Jones is a serviceable lefty reliever, while Alvarez is a 20-year-old southpaw with a decent future ahead. Therefore, the Fish didn't receive any immediate impact. The main motivation for the deal was to dump Hermida's salary.
