ANGELS ADD GREINKE FROM MILWAUKEE

The Los Angeles Angels acquired pitcher Zack Greinke from the Milwaukee Brewers for infielder Jean Segura and pitchers Ariel Pena and Johnny Hellweg.

What does it give the Los Angeles Angels
The Angels get the pitcher who was arguably the best available among this year's potential trade deadline acquisitions. They paid a steep price in sending Milwaukee three of their Top 20 prospects for Greinke, who could walk as a free agent at season's end. No matter for Los Angeles at this point, as they are clearly going for it all in the American League West--where Texas still holds the division lead. With Greinke to add to Jered Weaver, Dan Haren and C.J. Wilson, the Angels' rotation looks scary-good at the moment.

What does it give the Milwaukee Brewers
This was a fantastic haul for Brewers GM Doug Melvin, since it became clear recently that Greinke wasn't going to re-sign with the Brew Crew. Therefore, landing a potential leadoff hitter (and either the shortstop or second baseman of the future) in Segura, plus two quality Double-A starters in Pena and Hellweg, was a master stroke. Don't be surprised if all three players are part of the Brewers' 25-man roster next season. Under the circumstances, Milwaukee won this deal in a big way.
