MARINERS ACQUIRE OF BEN GAMEL

The Seattle Mariners acquired outfielder Ben Gamel from the New York Yankees for pitchers Jio Orozco and Juan De Paula.

What does it give the Seattle Mariners
Gamel, a 24-year-old outfielder, was enjoying a very solid Triple-A campaign (.308 BA, 6 HR, 51 RBI, 19 SB) at Scranton Wilkes-Barre in the Yankees' system. He profiles more as a platoon or fourth outfielder but may get a better opportunity to showcase his skills with the Mariners next season.

What does it give the New York Yankees
Orozco was ranked 24th among Mariners prospects by Baseball America heading into 2016 and, at 19 years old, is a very nice pickup for the Yankees at this time. Ditto for De Paula, who turns 19 later this month and is also a solid pitching prospect for the future. New York did very well in this trade.

Fantasy impact
Gamel has a little more value now that he is in Seattle, since his chances for more regular playing time in MLB have increased slightly. Still, he may be limited to a part-time role in the bigs and is more of a dark horse in fantasy terms. Both Orozco and De Paula should be on the keeper-league radar as potential future fantasy pitching assets.
