DALLAS DEALS FOR CHRISTIAN WOOD
The Dallas Mavericks acquired center/forward Christian Wood from the Houston Rockets for center Boban Marjanovic, guard/forward Sterling Brown, guard Trey Burke, forward/center Marquese Chriss and a first-round draft pick in 2022 (No. 26 overall).
What does it give the Dallas Mavericks
For the Mavericks, landing Wood is a coup. A talented big man who can play either center or power forward, Wood should excel playing alongside superstar Luka Doncic in Dallas. Wood is entering the final year of his contract, so the Mavs seem to be going for it in 2022-23. This is a solid move by Dallas.
What does it give the Houston Rockets
Houston did well to get assets back for a potential expiring contract. Landing another first-round pick in this deal should be viewed as the key to the deal for the rebuilding Rockets. It remains to be seen whether Marjanovic, Brown, Burke and Chriss are part of the plan for Houston moving forward.
Fantasy impact
Wood's fantasy stock could skyrocket playing with Doncic in 2022-23, so draft him with confidence this year. None of the other veterans in this deal have much in the way of fantasy value at this time.
