DARKO TO KNICKS

The New York Knicks acquired center Darko Milicic from the Memphis Grizzlies for forward/guard Quentin Richardson and cash considerations.

What does it give the New York Knicks
The rise last season of promising and athletic swingman Wilson Chandler made Richardson expendable, and the Knicks are desperate for more defense in the paint. Enter Milicic, a tough shot-blocker who at 24 still actually has some upside (despite being in the NBA since 2003). Head coach Mike D'Antoni loves European players and has a lot of experience in Europe, so may be the guy who finally gets Darko to fulfill his impressive potential.

What does it give the Memphis Grizzlies
Richardson is entering the final year of his contract and has a lot to prove after two seasons with field-goal percentagtes under .400. If the Grizz decide to keep him around for a season he might be able to provide some outside shooting and some veteran leadership. The cash included in the deal also helps with the Grizzlies' rebuilding project.
