RICHARDSON JOINS HEAT
The Miami Heat acquired forward/guard Quentin Richardson from the Minnesota Timberwolves for center Mark Blount.
What does it give the Miami Heat
The Heat are trying to keep impending free agent Dwyane Wade around, and adding his close friend Richardson is clearly an attempt to help in that push. Richardson also brings a quality veteran hand to the table with the ability to hit threes in bunches. Moreover, his contract expires at the end of the season, so they can re-sign him for less and free up some money to keep Wade (or sign another top free agent).
What does it give the Minnesota Timberwolves
Blount's contract is for a little less than Richardson's (so he saves the T-Wolves a few hundred thousand dollars); and just as appealing, his deal expires following the season. If Minny decides to keep him for next season, he brings solid veteran backup play at the center and power forward spots behind Al Jefferson and Kevin Love, respectively.
