MATT RYAN MOVES TO INDIANAPOLIS

The Indianapolis Colts acquired quarterback Matt Ryan from the Atlanta Falcons for a third-round draft pick in 2022 (No. 82 overall).

What does it give the Indianapolis Colts
Since Andrew Luck's retirement, the Colts have gone with Jacoby Brissett, Philip Rivers, Carson Wentz and now Ryan as their starting quarterback. Unfortunately, this move is also a short-term fix, as Ryan turns 37 in May. Is he a clear upgrade over Wentz? Yes. However, his upside is negligible at this stage of his career and the wheels could come off at any moment. Desperate times call for desperate measures in Indy.

What does it give the Atlanta Falcons
Atlanta was reportedly a finalist to land Deshaun Watson, who wound up in Cleveland. So, rather than go back to Ryan, the Falcons decided to move on from their longtime franchise quarterback and begin a new era with a different starting quarterback. The Falcons will get a third-rounder for their veteran signal caller but will almost certainly be picking a quarterback with an early draft choice this year.

Fantasy impact
Ryan's fantasy value remains solid, although there remain far better options in most leagues. Rivers had a very good campaign in Indy as an aging QB, so there is precedence here. Still, there are red flags in picking Ryan in 2022. Buyer beware.
