DALLAS LANDS TREY LANCE
The Dallas Cowboys acquired quarterback Trey Lance from the San Francisco 49ers for a fourth-round draft pick in 2024.
What does it give the Dallas Cowboys
This looks like a good move by all parties involved. For Dallas, adding Lance gives them more depth at the QB position behind starter Dak Prescott. He should be able to move up to the backup role ahead of Cooper Rush at some point. Lance needed a change of scenery, so the move to Dallas could benefit him greatly down the road.
What does it give the San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers are better off now that they have traded Lance for whatever they could get in return. The alternative would have been to keep him on the roster as the No. 3 quarterback. That would not have been ideal for a player selected in the first round. San Francisco admitted their mistake here and moved on. This helps everyone involved.
Fantasy impact
Lance is now mostly a keeper-league option, or a QB with value in dynasty leagues. Otherwise, there is little need to draft him in 2023. Dak owners, or fantasy leaguers who are planning on drafting Prescott, could consider picking Lance up as well as a handcuff. That is about it for now.
