Loved to play a gritty, banging style from behind the blueline. Was an excellent team leader. Owned plenty of versatility; he could also skate as a winger when his team was in a pinch. Went through a lot of NHL wars. Lost speed because of age late in his career and could take bad penalties from time to time, which placed his team behind the eight-ball. His days of making an impact in any area of the game were few and far between.
