BROUWER TO CAPS

The Washington Capitals acquired winger Troy Brouwer from the Chicago Blackhawks for a first-round draft pick in 2011.

What does it give the Washington Capitals
Brouwer should help the Capitals immediately, as he provides some muscle and secondary scoring to the second or third line. He can play either wing position, so his versatility should also help coach Bruce Boudreau when he needs to switch up his lines. Brouwer can play anywhere from the first to the fourth line, which also helps.

What does it give the Chicago Blackhawks
The Blackhawks decided to move Brouwer out in order to select a future support forward of similar ilk in Phillip Danault. The 'Hawks are still moving salary out, while continuing to stockpile picks. This exercise is so that they can re-sign Patrick Sharp (among others) before next summer. Brouwer's time was probably up in Chicago, anyway.
