DODGERS LOAD UP, ADD REDDICK AND HILL
The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired outfielder Josh Reddick and pitcher Rich Hill from the Oakland Athletics for pitchers Grant Holmes, Jharel Cotton and Frankie Montas.
What does it give the Los Angeles Dodgers
For the Dodgers, adding two more proven commodities (albeit as rentals in all likelihood) should help them in their quest to reach the postseason in the National League. Reddick is a great defensive right-fielder with power, so expect him to supplant Yasiel Puig as the new everyday man in right field. Hill is a late-blooming talent who should help what has been a beaten and battered starting rotation in LA this season. The Dodgers gave up a lot but hope to get a lot down the stretch.
What does it give the Oakland Athletics
This is an excellent deal for the rebuilding A's, as they were able to land three power right-handers to help re-stock their shelves. Holmes is the most polished of the three pitchers acquired, and the most likely future starter, while Cotton and Montas are power arms who should both have a future in Major League Baseball at some point (either as starters or relievers). In exchange for two pending free agents, Oakland did incredibly well here to add three more pitching prospects.
Fantasy impact
Reddick and Hill should remain the same from a fantasy standpoint now that they are going from the Athletics to the Dodgers. Holmes' stock should be on the rise now because his big-league prospects could be better in Oakland. His expected time of arrival should be accelerated now. As for Cotton and Montas, both are intriguing fantasy pitching prospects who should be on the keeper-league radar. Both are worth a look in deep keeper leagues.
