Had truly rare athletic gifts for a receiver: tight end height and length, cornerback speed, smooth fluidity and good hands. He could beat defensive backs down the field for a big play and was also a very solid underneath target who used the sidelines well. Could be slow out of his break off the snap, and did not have a lot of deceptive moves to get separation. His fundamentals were not the greatest. Injuries played a huge role throughout his NFL career, and ultimately caused him to retire prematurely.
