Backstrom (hip) is expected to spend the 2024-25 campaign on long-term injured reserve, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports Tuesday.
Backstrom (hip), who announced last Wednesday that he's temporarily stepping away from hockey to focus on his health, was moved to the long-term injured reserve list Wednesday.
Is still one of the NHL's best passers as he enters his mid-30s, though injuries have taken a toll. Has outstanding patience and hockey sense, and is among the best in NHL history at putting teammates in prime position to score. He also owns an underrated shot that he needs to use more often. Continues to be defensively responsible as well as a weapon in shootouts.
Long Range Potential: Excellent veteran playmaker (when healthy).
