Ruiz (foot) did not have his fifth-year option picked up by the Saints on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
His ideal frame and convincing body of work in the Big Ten project him as a reliable NFL starter with some top-tier qualities. A tenacious competitor, he proved his mettle in three years of major conference play, first at guard before switching to center. Controls and manipulates opponents with raw, head-to-toe strength, powerful hands and a refusal to bend. Shows exceptional agility and communication skills. Is a bit too reliant on force at the expense of technique; his short arms can be a detriment against longer opponents. Must manage his weight in order to retain his mobility against NFL D-linemen.
Long Range Potential:
Quality interior offensive line anchor.
