Malatesta scored three goals in two games during the Traverse City Prospect Tournament while skating on both the power play and the penalty kill, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official website reports.

Proved to be a big-game performer in the junior ranks, winning MVP honors at the 2023 Memorial Cup. Despite his smallish frame, he displays good energy and gumption on the ice.
