Was supremely skilled with the puck, could finish plays or set up linemates with aplomb, and skated extremely well. Had a wealth of determination and perseverance. Led by example. At 5-9, 165 pounds, he was relatively easy to knock off the puck. Had difficulty playing his game against physical defenders. Injuries hurt him over time and shortened his NHL career.
