Johnson has agreed in principle to a five-year deal with Pittsburgh, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Johnson played 21:39 in Monday's 5-1 win over the Capitals, recording one shot, one hit, one blocked shot and a plus-1 rating.
The third player taken (after Sidney Crosby and Bobby Ryan) in the 2005 NHL Draft is still a good skater as he moves through his mid-30s, though he has never been the kind of offensive threat his draft status implied he would be. He is still a physical presence but has been known to take himself out of position to make a hit. At this stage of his career, he needs to keep his game simple to succeed. Excels on the penalty kill.
