Smith (elbow) is being stretched out as a starter in Pirates camp, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.
Scouting Report
Can be used as both a starter and reliever in the minor leagues, which adds organizational value. Can strike a lot of batters out when used out of the bullpen in the minors. His repertoire is a bit too limited for a starting job in Major League Baseball, and he might not strike out enough big leaguers to carve out a role as a lefty specialist.
Long Range Potential: Decent, versatile left-hander with a little upside.
