Wirfs (shoulder) did not participate at practice Wednesday, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM NFL Radio reports.
Wirfs' acclimation to his new position of left tackle is going smoothly thus far in training camp, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports. "He's adjusted well over there, I think," head coach Todd Bowles said. "There's probably still some kinks he needs to work out, probably when we get in pads, from a hand-placement standpoint, but I think he's done an excellent job so far."
Highly touted from a program (University of Iowa) renowned for great linemen, he embodies all the plus traits of a complete pro. Was well developed in college as a three-year starter with advanced technical prowess. His lean, proportioned frame reflects a varied sports background; he presents a rock-solid base with proven durability. Is an accomplished zone blocker in the running game. His lower body strength and precise, active hands are reliable tools in pass protection. Can play either tackle spot. Leads runners to the second level but tends to flounder in space; he must gain explosiveness and consistency to become truly dominant in the NFL.
