Gainwell is poised to operate as the backup to Saquon Barkley, who slated to sign a three-year, $37.75 million contract with the Eagles, Eric Edholm of NFL.com reports.
Gainwell rushed 84 times for 364 yards and two touchdowns i n 16 regular-season games, adding 30 catches for 183 yards through the air.
The short but strong running back reads blockers and tacklers well and makes quick, effective cuts. He has to learn to avoid taking too many big hits as an insider runner. He is versatile enough to play on first and second downs, and has the pass-catching ability and blocking skills needed to be a reliable third-down back as well.
