Bednar tossed one clean inning, striking out one during Sunday's 6-1 loss to the Red Sox.
Pirates manager Derek Shelton said in an interview on 93.7 The Fan that Bednar would handle a save situation if one arises in Thursday's game versus the Phillies, Andrew Destin of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Has excellent stuff, so he can strike out a plethora of batters in the minor leagues. It also enables him to serve as a closer at lower levels. Can be hurt by the long ball, so he needs to curb that tendency if he is to become a solid option for high-leverage situations in Major League Baseball.
Long Range Potential: Talented reliever with some upside.
