Martinez (neck) was placed on injured reserve Friday, retroactive to Dec. 7, Tracey Myers of NHL.com reports.
Martinez (neck) has returned to Chicago for further evaluation, so he won't be in the lineup for Thursday's road game against the Islanders, per Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times.
Can still play huge minutes effectively even though he is well into his 30s, thanks largely to his speed and mobility. He does not shoot the puck as much as he did when he was younger, but his two-way game remains solid and he is the definition of steady when it comes to playing defense. He does his best work when he keeps things simple.
Long Range Potential: Steady, two-way veteran defenseman.
