Varlamov was the first goalie off the ice at the morning skate, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports, indicating he will guard the road goal in Game 2 against Carolina on Monday.
Varlamov will defend the visiting crease in Carolina on Saturday for Game 1, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
The Russian is a big goalkeeper who uses his size to cover a lot of net. He moves well side to side and has fast reflexes along with an excellent glove hand. However, he is not as good at handling the puck as he thinks he is, and occasionally gets himself into trouble by trying to do more than he should (instead of letting his defensemen do the work). Has had occasional bouts with injuries and inconsistency, but can carry a team when at his best even in his 30s.
