Payne signed a one-year, $3.1 million contract with the Knicks on Monday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
Gifted as a passer and does a great job running the offense. Superbly quick and balanced, with excellent court vision and playmaking instincts: anticipates the action and converts great plays. Makes his teammates better. A lefty who's also a solid shooter and scorer. Has a knack for steals. Undersized for the NBA backcourt in both height and muscle mass. Will need more bulk to handle NBA one-on-one defensive matchups. Not a big leaper who will finish strongly at the hoop (a factor limiting his field goal percentage). Streaky at times with his outside shot.
Long Range Potential: Speedy, athletic, pass-first point guard.
