ORIOLES BRING BACK VERSATILE STEVE PEARCE

The Baltimore Orioles acquired outfielder/infielder Steve Pearce from the Tampa Bay Rays for catcher Jonah Heim.

What does it give the Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles know Pearce very well, so bringing him back should work out well for Baltimore. He can play all over the field, and may do so again with the O's, but could be needed as a quasi-regular in left field.

What does it give the Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays are in rebuilding mode once again, so they decided to part ways with Pearce in exchange for a long-range catching prospect with a lot of work to do on offense. Tampa Bay did not get much in return here.

Fantasy impact
Heim has little value to speak of, and he is not likely to develop into a starting catcher in MLB. As for Pearce, he is a sneaky-good fantasy option because of his versatility and propensity to get hot with the bat. He is a solid short-term pickup.
