CUBS TRADE FOR TIGERS OF CASTELLANOS

The Chicago Cubs acquired outfielder Nick Castellanos and cash from the Detroit Tigers for pitchers Alex Lange and Paul Richan.

What does it give the Chicago Cubs
The Cubs get a solid corner outfielder who came up as a third baseman, so he comes with the requisite versatility for Chicago manager Joe Maddon. Look for Castellanos to play mostly right field in Chicago, with Jason Heyward seeing more playing time in center field. It may allow Kris Bryant to remain at the hot corner most of the time. The Tigers also sent Chicago a little cash to help pay for the remainder of Castellanos' deal.

What does it give the Detroit Tigers
In exchange for Detroit's starting right-fielder, the Tigers acquired a pair of pitching prospects in Lange and Richan. The former is a 23-year-old right-hander with a projectable frame and plenty of potential. His numbers figure to only get better moving forward. As for Richan, the 22-year-old has only reached high Single-A ball so far, as opposed to Double-A ball for Lange, but he too has some upside as a starting pitcher in Major League Baseball.

Fantasy impact
Castellanos could be a major help to Chicago's offense down the stretch, so he is a candidate to be acquired via trade in most league formats. If he is available by some chance, pick him up. Lange and Richan are players to keep an eye on, although Detroit currently boasts better and more advanced pitching prospects in their farm system.
