KINGS, HAWKS SWAP MINOR LEAGUERS

The Los Angeles Kings acquired defenseman Cameron Schilling from the Chicago Blackhawks for forward Michael Latta.

What does it give the Los Angeles Kings
Schilling has good size for an NHL blueliner, and the Kings definitely covet players with that particular quality for their 'heavy' style of play. He also possesses an impressive shot, so Schilling should provide L.A. with solid organizational rearguard depth going forward.

What does it give the Chicago Blackhawks
Earlier in his AHL career, Latta produced solid point totals and oodles of penalty minutes. In the new NHL, however, his pugilistic tendencies are no longer coveted. Add to that his drop-off in scoring this season at the AHL level, and he became expendable. Latta adds depth.

Fantasy impact
Both of Schilling and Latta have some useful tools for the NHL, but for now both are aging prospects still toiling in the minor-pro ranks. Even if either player finds his way to the NHL soon, neither projects as a viable fantasy option.
