DUCKS DEAL FOR DALLAS WINGER EAVES

The Anaheim Ducks acquired winger Patrick Eaves from the Dallas Stars for a conditional second-round draft pick in 2017.

What does it give the Anaheim Ducks
The 32-year-old Eaves is a solid veteran winger who has already surpassed the 20-goal plateau this season, so he should provide the Ducks with a little secondary scoring down the stretch (and in the playoffs). The price to acquire the pending unrestricted free agent was pretty high, though.

What does it give the Dallas Stars
This is an outstanding asset swap by Dallas, who dealt away one of their many potential UFA forwards in exchange for a high pick in the '17 draft that may wind up being a first rounder (if Anaheim advances to the Western Conference finals and Eaves appears in at least 50% of their games in rounds 1 and 2).

Fantasy impact
Eaves has spent most of the 2016-17 campaign on the Stars' No. 1 line with captain Jamie Benn, but his situation may get even better in Anaheim if he plays with captain Ryan Getzlaf. At the very least, Eaves' fantasy value remains intact after this deal. However, there is good potential for a solid spike down the stretch.
