METHOT ON THE MOVE AGAIN, TO DALLAS
The Dallas Stars acquired defenseman Marc Methot from the Vegas Golden Knights for goaltender Dylan Ferguson and a second-round draft pick in 2020.
What does it give the Dallas Stars
The Stars had been trying to acquire Methot ever since he was exposed by Ottawa in the expansion draft, and they finally got their man. Senators superstar Erik Karlsson's regular defense partner, Methot will now get the opportunity to play alongside another Swedish offensive defenseman: John Klingberg. This was a solid move by Dallas, and it did not cost too much either.
What does it give the Vegas Golden Knights
The Golden Knights have too many NHL defensemen, so it was only a matter of time before they moved another one out. Methot was lukewarm to the idea of playing for an expansion franchise, so Vegas GM George McPhee did well to move the veteran out. He received a long-range second rounder and a goaltending prospect (Dylan Ferguson) picked in Round 7 of the '17 draft.
Fantasy impact
Methot is mainly a defensive defenseman, but his stock may dip a bit since he will no longer play next to the NHL's top defenseman (Karlsson). Then again, his value is better in Dallas than it would have been in Vegas.
