CANUCKS LAND WEINRICH

The Vancouver Canucks acquired defenseman Eric Weinrich from the St. Louis Blues for defenseman Tomas Mojzis and a third-round draft pick in 2006.

What does it give the Vancouver Canucks
Despite having 39-year-old legs, Weinrich has managed to maneuver himself well enough to remain a decent puck-moving defenseman, picking up a handful of assists. He's a fearless defender and an asset in the dressing room. At his age, he'll probably get a psychological boost out of moving from a basement-dweller to a team likely to make the playoffs.

What does it give the St. Louis Blues
Sitting in the Western Conference basement, the Blues have no choice but to address future needs, and they made this deal to that end. Weinrich wasn't going to help them the rest of the way and the rookie Mojzis is a kid to groom for the future. He projects as a fourth or fifth defenseman in the NHL.
