BACASHIHUA TO COLORADO

The Colorado Avalanche acquired goaltender Jason Bacashihua from the St. Louis Blues for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2008.

What does it give the Colorado Avalanche
Bacashihua should get a better shot at an NHL gig in Denver than St. Louis. The writing was on the wall for Bacashihua since the Blues' acquisition of Hannu Toivonen from Boston. Bacashihua still has potential, and so he should become at least Colorado's third stringer shortly. Eventually, he could replace Jose Theodore as the 1A 'tender alongside Peter Budaj.

What does it give the St. Louis Blues
With Manny Legace and Hannu Toivonen in the NHL, and Marek Schwarz dominating the AHL, there was no room for Bacashihua within the Blues organization. Therefore, they took whatever they could get for him. Chances are, the pick will be contingent upon Bacashihua re-signing with Colorado, since he's a free agent at the end of the 2007-08 campaign.
