BACKMAN NOW A BLUESHIRT
The New York Rangers acquired defenseman Christian Backman from the St. Louis Blues for a fourth-round draft pick in 2008.
What does it give the New York Rangers
Backman adds more defensive depth to the Rangers blueline, and he may
be an eventual replacement for pending unrestricted free agent Michal
Rozsival. Paul Mara, Marek Malik and Jason Strudwick are also potential
UFA's, whereas Backman is signed through 2008-09.
What does it give the St. Louis Blues
Backman wasn't playing regularly in St. Louis, so they decided to move
him for a future asset. This deal does nothing to enhance the Blues'
playoff chances.
