BLUE JACKETS BRING IN BACKUP G ZATKOFF
The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired goaltender Jeff Zatkoff from the Los Angeles Kings for future considerations.
What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets
Since the Blue Jackets have two younger goaltenders (Joonas Korpisalo and Matiss Kivlenieks) behind veteran Sergei Bobrovsky on the depth chart, they felt the need to add a veteran puck-stopper as an insurance policy. Enter Zatkoff, who has Stanley Cup playoff experience with Pittsburgh. He is merely a depth addition.
What does it give the Los Angeles Kings
Veteran Zatkoff was essentially fifth on the Kings' depth chart this season, behind NHLers Jonathan Quick and Darcy Kuemper plus younger minor leaguers Jack Campbell and Cal Petersen. Therefore, it makes sense that LA moved on from Zatkoff at this time--even though they did not receive much of anything in return.
Fantasy impact
Zatkoff provides zero fantasy value (unless Columbus loses both Bobrovsky and Korpisalo to injury). Therefore, there is nothing to see here.
