DUCKS ADD WINCHESTER

The Anaheim Mighty Ducks acquired winger Brad Winchester from the St. Louis Blues for a third-round pick in the 2012 draft.

What does it give the Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks are one of the NHL's more feisty, physical teams and Winchester fits that mold to a tee. He's massive, chippy, and will drop the gloves if needed to stick up for his teammates. Winchester can also score a little, so should be a nice arrival to Anaheim's third line down the stretch (which needs a boost). An added bonus: Winchester is a UFA after this season with a very affordable salary the rest of the way.

What does it give the St. Louis Blues
The Blues do a nice job here of landing a solid pick in the '12 3rd-rounder, in return for a player who wasn't a major contributor for them. They faced losing Winchester after this season for nothing, so adding a future asset--one that should prove to bring a player at least as talented as Winchester, considering the Blues' scouting and organization--is a fine maneuver that doesn't cost them much.
