CANUCKS CLAIM LEIPSIC FOR D-MAN HOLM
The Vancouver Canucks acquired winger Brendan Leipsic from the Vegas Golden Knights for defenseman Philip Holm.
What does it give the Vancouver Canucks
The Canucks were searching for an agitator since veteran Derek Dorsett was forced to retire due to injury earlier this season, so Leipsic should fit the bill perfectly. The latter has more scoring upside but less size and toughness than his predecessor. Leipsic is also cheap ($650,000 cap hit through 2018-19).
What does it give the Vegas Golden Knights
Holm adds more defensive depth to the Golden Knights, while at the same time they moved out a winger who might have become redundant after the recent recall of Stefan Matteau and recent trade acquisition of tough guy Ryan Reaves. The 26-year-old Holm is a pending restricted free agent after '17-18.
Fantasy impact
Leipsic's fantasy value is on the rise after this deal, and there is a chance he might flourish in Vancouver. He has short-term appeal down the stretch but is also a solid fantasy sleeper heading into 2018-19. As for Holm, he is not expected to play enough with his new team to make an impact.
