VERNACE TO COLORADO

The Colorado Avalanche acquired defenseman Michael Vernace from the San Jose Sharks for a sixth-round draft pick in 2007.

What does it give the Colorado Avalanche
The Avalanche need more prospects with upside, so adding Vernace to the mix was a good start. He'll probably spend all of 2006-07 in the minors, but has a better chance to move up the ranks in Colorado than he did with the Sharks organization.

What does it give the San Jose Sharks
Since the Sharks were having trouble getting Vernace under contract, they did the wise thing by adding an asset before losing him for nothing.
